Bloomington Compost Site

The Bloomington Compost facility has been operating since 1990. During this time Miller Compost has been working in conjunction with area residents and businesses to successfully divert over 300,000 tonnes of organic material. These materials were once considered a waste and would have been destined to a landfill. By working together, Miller Compost and surrounding communities have transformed them into high quality compost, a resource rather than a waste.

The Bloomington Compost facility utilizes a turned windrow system .This facility is equipped with the latest in proven equipment and technology. Miller Compost has developed computer software and systems for the management of compostable material. This material is tracked continuously, from its arrival through to when it leaves as finished product. All temperature, moisture, oxygen and analytical tests are recorded in the system as part of the processing history of the compost.

The Bloomington Compost facility is licensed for and has a capacity to receive and process 50,000 tonnes of yard material per year. These material types include leaves, grass, garden waste, brush, tree trunks, cuttings, etc. The facility is situated on 35 acres, all of which are licensed for composting operations.

The compost we produce from the leaf and yard material produces an enriched organic matter that is power packed with nutrients, beneficial organisms, and soil amending properties. All of our soil blends are manufactured using this compost.

The Bloomington Facility presently composts a diverse range of organic materials, including:

  • Agricultural
  • Aquatic
  • Source Separated Organics (SSO)
  • Yard Trimmings

This finished compost is utilized in many ways with a large portion being returned to our local communities. Residents, commercial businesses, and municipalities are now reaping the natural organic benefits of compost. Neighborhood lawns and gardens, playing fields and golf courses are some examples of where you will find compost helping out.
