Training and safety are extremely important to Miller and to our success. Miller is OHSAS 18001:2007 certified and is now the only known hazardous waste company within Canada that has such a complex and complete integrated management system (IMS) employing ISO 9001:2008, 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007.
These three highly recognized standards are critical elements within our IMS that allow Miller the ability to have procedural soundness on completing jobs, while taking into account our customer’s satisfaction, awareness of possible environmental impacts, as well as the safety and health concerns for each individual job and task we perform.
Waste that is received by Miller is verified as being correctly identified by the customer. Containers of waste are sampled and tested to ensure the accuracy of the description of the waste in order to mitigate any incidents when processing. Examples of the types of testing conducted are water content, heat value, suspended solids, pH, and heavy metals. Samples of treated solid waste that is designated for landfill are submitted for third party laboratory analysis prior to release. This is to validate the waste has been properly treated prior to shipping to a Class 1 landfill.
Miller utilizes a modified U.S. based waste tracking data base that allows Miller to track and follow each step in the management of waste from a customer’s site. Specialized reports can be created using this system upon a customer’s request to help with their accounting of what happens to their waste.
