407 Extension — Phase 1
The Extension of Highway 407 ETR from the Brock Road Interchange Eastern Limit in Pickering to the Harmony Road Interchange Eastern Limit in Whitby/Oshawa (approx. 20.3 km), including the West Durham Link (WDL), east of Lake Ridge Road, serving as a north-south freeway connector to Highway 401 (approx.10 km), and a realignment of Highway 401 (approx. 5 km) and new lanes will total approximately 148 km.
Extra care was taken to limit the environmental impact with more than 147 hectacres of ecological restoration. Approximately 148 new lane kilometres opened in total with 11 interchanges, 31 water-crossing structures, and 16 municipal road crossings.
A new extension of Highway 407

Construction of Highway 412
- 10 kilometer connection between Highway 401 and Highway 407
Highway 407 and Highway 412 are Ontario’s first publicly owned and publicly controlled toll highways. Although connecting to the existing 407 ETR, Highway 407 is a separate entity owned and operated by the Province of Ontario.
