Simcoe County Golf Link Roundabout
On April 1st, Georgian Paving was awarded the contract to construct Simcoe County’s first roundabout in the North Simcoe area on County Road 93. This County road is the main route to Penetanguishene and the northern part of Simcoe County.
Georgian Paving was the second-lowest tenderer of 4 tenders at a contract value of $7,831,088. Simcoe County requested several more project references before deciding to select Georgian Paving based on experience and previous success on similar projects.
The scope of work involved constructing a detour road to the west of the existing intersection and installing temporary traffic lights to detour traffic around the worksite. Once traffic was diverted, the excavation of the existing road and construction of the new roundabout could proceed. Also, the work included building a multi-use trail adjacent to the new roadway.
- 43,600 m³ earth excavation
- 11,000 t of asphalt (SP19, SP12.5)
- 55,000 t Gran B, 25,000 t Gran A
- 3,000 metres of curb
- 1,800 m² of concrete median islands
- 1000 m of Storm sewer and corresponding appurtenances
- 3 precast box culverts
The contract completion date for this two-year project was October 31, 2022. Georgian Paving completed the job on November 12, 2021, almost one year sooner than the owner anticipated. This was possible in large part because of the tremendous work ethic and determination of Nathan Brown and his team.
