Responsible Land Stewardship
The Miller Group’s Bees, Trees and Seeds Program represents our commitment to responsible land stewardship, in line with Colas’ CSR goals. Miller was honoured to receive an Environmental Achievement Award at the OSSGA Industry Recognition Awards in recognition of this program.
Tree Planting Program
Launched for our 105 anniversary in 2022, the Tree Planting Program is Miller’s dedication to planting 115,000 trees over the next 10 years. As of 2025, we have planted approximately 65,000 trees and shrubs across 12 sites. Miller has surpassed the halfway mark to reaching our goal.

In line with Colas’ CSR goals, the planting of native trees, shrubs, and pollinator gardens contributes to the offsetting of Miller’s carbon footprint and support local biodiversity. To foster environmental education and awareness, the program hosts tree planting days where employees are invited to attend and get involved in the planting activities.

Beehives Hosting
Started in 2023, the Beehive program works with local beekeepers to install and manage beehives across Miller properties. As of 2025, we have about 350 hives on 15 sites located across southern Ontario on pits, quarries, plants, and maintenance yards. Miller Atlantic also hosts approximately 12 beehives on our blueberry field in Nova Scotia. As the program expands, we intend to increase the number of locations with beehives to span across our Ontario and Maritimes operations.
This program supports Colas’ biodiversity initiative of rolling out beehives at suitable sites across the company’s groups. The hosting of the beehives across Miller will help spread awareness to the importance and protection of pollinator species such as bees. As the program continues to grow, we hope to host a variety of honeybees and native bee across our properties.

Seeds Program
Started in 2022, the Seed program seeks to promote the environment, biodiversity, and pollinator species by distributing custom seed packets across Miller locations. To date, packets have consisted of sunflower seeds, milkweed seeds, and wildflower seed mixes. The wildflower packets include a mix of annuals, biennials, and perennial flowers and have included packets specifically for bees and butterflies as well as general wildflower mixes. The seeds consist of native and naturalized species that can grow throughout Ontario and the Maritimes. As of 2025, nearly 30,000 seed packets have been distributed across Miller and its communities.

Community Gardens
Uxbridge Share Garden – Uxbridge, Ontario
The Uxbridge Share Garden was started in 2022 by dedicated employees with support and assistance within Miller and is located in a former pit. The garden contains a wide range of vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers and throughout the season, produce is donated to the Uxbridge Loaves & Fishes Food Bank. There are also several personal plots that members of the community can sign up for to grow their own produce.

Atlantic Community Gardens – Moncton, NB & Dartmouth, NS
In 2023, Miller Atlantic established two community gardens at their Moncton, New Brunswick and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia offices. These gardens are maintained by Miller employees and grow a variety of vegetables. Throughout the growing season, fresh produce from the gardens is donated to local food banks and community kitchens like Harvest House and Feed Nova Scotia.
